Following a sell-out run last year, Amadeus returns to the Olivier in 2018.
Vienna: the music capital of the world. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a rowdy young prodigy, arrives determined to make a splash. Awestruck by his genius, court composer Antonio Salieri has the power to promote his talent or destroy it.
Seized by obsessive jealousy he begins a war with Mozart, with music and, ultimately, with God.
Michael Longhurst's acclaimed production of Peter Shaffer's iconic play features live orchestral accompaniment by Southbank Sinfonia. Adam Gillen and Lucian Msamati reprise the roles of Mozart and Salieri.
The National Theatre stages over 20 theatre productions a year. These are put on in our three auditoriums - the Olivier, Lyttelton and Cottesloe Theatres - and in these three theatres, we present a mix of new plays and classics, with up to six productions in repertory at any one time.
