The Raid

We feel spoilt this month.

Here is the film that has had us salivating ever since the bombastic trailer dropped late last year.

Indonesian martial arts star Iko Uwais finds himself part of a botched attempt to take down a notorious criminal kingpin. Trapped with an ever-dwindling number of SWAT team members, there is only one way out. FIGHT!

Welsh director Gareth Evans follows up his previous hit 'Merantau' with a blistering film that has rightly been taking the festival circuit by storm.

The fights are incredibly brutal, some of the best put on film. Bones are broken and characters dispatched with gusto, all to an amazing soundtracks with matches the action on screen perfectly.

Uwais looks like a normal guy, which makes his exertions here even more appealing. The genre has been poorly served by an overuse of muscle-men and terrible CGI, here is is kept real in every sense of the word.

The premise itself is simple, and some viewers might find the violence excessive, but you really aren't going into this film blind. Now that you know what it's about, surely you want to see it? I know I want to watch it again and again. It's just that damn good.

Release date: 18 May
