Magic Mike

Channing Tatum is not ashamed of his 'exotic dancing' background. To be honest, if we looked like him, we probably wouldn't be either.

What is surprising is that this early career now provides the basis of this hugely entertaining film.

Steven Soderbergh has tackled a variety of subject over the last few years, and this particular one proves to be the one that has generated arguably his best film to date. It's fun, serious and boasts some superb performances from all the cast. Tatum looks like a natural on the stage and on screen; he has developed into one of the best young actors in Hollywood. Alongside him this time is the magnetic Matthew McConaughey, who draws in the audience as he does impressionable young men looking for a fast buck.

The story veers towards standard 'sports movie' clichés towards the end, but by this point you should be so invested in the characters that you'll be desperate for the big reveal at the end.

Release date: 11 July

Starring: Channing Tatum, Alex Pettyfer, Matthew McConaughey
