This might seem like an odd choice to at first.

A 3D re-release of a classic Disney animation that was out on blu-ray no more than a few months ago. So why is it our film of the month?

Beauty and the Beast is still one of the finest animated tales ever put on screen. The care and attention taken in every frame of the film is apparent for all to see. What makes this release stand out is that the same level of care has been taken in transferring the film into the 3D format.

The visuals are spectacular, using a combination of the hand-drawn style as well subtle computer assistance. The characters are beautifully designed, from The Beast to the talking teacups. Then there are the musical numbers, and it's no understatement to say that they are among the best that Disney have ever produced.

Kids will love this, even if they are frightened by some of it. It's what makes these films so great after all, and grown-ups will have a wonderful time as well. An absolute corker, made even better.

Release date: 4 May
