Hot in 2012: Screen
Let's get the inevitable one out of the way...
'The Dark Knight Rises' will be the biggest film of the year. The third film in the Nolan Batman trilogy will be our last chance to catch the current Bruce Wayne as both star and director are set to bow out to allow for a Warner Bros reboot. Little is known about the plot itself, but we think Tom Hardy and Anne Hathaway will only add to the clamour to see the movie.
You'll still be able to catch the likes of 'Mission Impossible 4', 'Sherlock Holmes 2' and 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo' in cinemas in January, but for something original be sure to check out our recommendation 'Shame'.
It's also awards season, so be sure to keep an eye out for Spielberg and Eastwood with 'War Horse' and 'J Edgar' respectively, although we think the fun factor will be with Soderbergh and his fantastic -looking fight fest 'Haywire'.
Fans of 3D will not only get new films by the bucketload again, but also a couple of classics being remastered in the format. 'Star Wars: Phantom Menace' and 'Titanic' are set to return... we might be busy doing something else on those days though.
A film we can't wait for, but will have to, is 'The Muppets'! The trailers have been superb so far and who on earth will have a problem with watching Kermit and the gang? Plus there is the lovely Amy Adams to contend with.
Denzel Washington returns in February with 'Safe House', an intriguing sounding thriller which will see him teaming up with Ryan Reynolds. Personally, I’ll also be keeping an eye out for 'Salmon Fishing in the Yemen', but mainly because I might be in it...
With 'Harry Potter' now done with, we can expect to see the stars trying their best to land other roles. Daniel Radcliffe will be seen in the spooky 'The Woman in Black' although there are plenty of franchises looking to fill the void. The one most likely at this stage is 'The Hunger Games', a best-selling series which you'll find everyone reading on the tube at the moment.
The hugely popular 'Streetdance' has spawned a sequel, and that will be hitting the screens at the end of March. And on a musical tip (kinda), Rihanna will make a screen debut in 'Battleship'... yep the film based on the strategy board game.
If any film can compete with 'The Dark Knight Rises' in terms of hype, then it will be the Marvel team-up movie 'The Avengers'. Samuel L Jackson will be on hand to lead a team of superheroes against an evil menace. Not part of that team, but still a member of the Marvel universe is 'Spiderman' who will be getting a 3D reboot courtesy of Andrew Garfield.
'Men in Black 3' will be one of the early blockbusters in the summer, closely followed by 'Prometheus'. Both have something to do with aliens... but that's about all we know at this stage.
Other films to keep an eye out for are'Jack the Giant Killer', the two 'Snow White' films, 'Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter', 'Total Recall' and out own guilty pleasure... 'Step Up 4'. Seriously.
