Pegasus Opera Company Presents A Symphony of Voices
Pegasus Opera Company celebrates Black History month by staging a Symphony of Voices from 7pm on Thursday 13 October at the Actors Church, Covent Garden, Bedford Street, London WC2E 9ED. There will be a drinks reception following the concert.
Pegasus Opera is embarking on a new Era after 24 years of staging pioneering productions both locally, nationally and internationally. This event sees the start of Pegasus Opera presenting exciting new shows with the run up of its 25th Year in 2017.
A Symphony of Voices will be hosted by Lloyd Newton (Artistic Director, Pegasus Opera Company) and features outstanding international opera singers in the UK including Gweneth Ann Rand (Soprano); Anne Fridal (Dramatic Mezzo); Ronald Samm (Tenor); Byron Jackson (Baritone) & Waiyin Lee (Accompanist). The evening promises a celebration of great inspiring music (Arias, Duets, Quartets, etc) from Operas, penned by the great composers like Puccini, Verdi, Mascagni, Gershwin and Negro Spirituals, among others and to include audience participation.

Pegasus Opera is the leading multi-racial touring Opera Company in the U.K. and was founded in 1992 by its current Artistic Director, Lloyd Newton. The Patrons are Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Kristin Lewis and Chuka Umunna MP. The Company creates opportunities for black professional singers from diverse backgrounds to develop and perform in high-quality and innovative opera productions and arts education work. Past productions were sell out shows and received critical acclaim; they include Carmen, Magic Flute, I Pagliacci on National Tours, Porgy and Bess at the Barbican Concert Hall, Delius’ Koanga at London’s Sadler’s Wells and Treemonisha at Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre and UK tour.
‘Pegasus Opera is fast approaching its 25th Year in the world of Opera, a truly exciting time. This celebration for Black History month is the first of many to come, culminating in our 25th Year Celebration next year. Since its inception in 1992 Pegasus Opera Company aims to model “Harmony in Diversity” by empowering those who are continually marginalised and on the periphery of the opera world. By nurturing these diverse talents a new form of cultural harmony can be achieved. This harmony encourages artistes regardless of cultural heritage or ethnic background.
